Visual Quality Guidelines

At Precision Auto Protective Films, we strive to create customer experiences that result in satisfaction and loyalty. To meet our mission, we follow the International Window Film Association's (IWFA) window film guidelines. It is important to note that window tint is not expected to have the same visual quality as glass, and the guidelines we follow apply only to the film itself, not defects in the glass.

Precision Auto Protective Films follows industry-standard guidelines for window tint and paint protection film (PPF) installations to ensure high-quality results. Please note that aftermarket films are not expected to have the same optical clarity as glass, and minor imperfections are normal. Below are the expectations for film application and inspection standards.

Window Tint Quality Standards

Curing Time:

  • Window film requires up to 2 weeks to fully cure. During this period, some haziness, moisture bubbles, or light distortions may be visible but will dissipate as the film dries.

Inspection Standard:

  • The film should be inspected from 3 feet away in natural daylight at a 90-degree angle to the glass.

Common Characteristics:

  • Dust Particles & Contamination: Minor dust or tiny specks may be present but should not be excessive.
  • Water Haze & Bubbles: Small bubbles or moisture pockets are normal during the curing process and will clear up over time. If bubbles remain after curing, they are likely caused by small dust particles trapped during installation. Contamination is an unavoidable side effect of aftermarket window tint, even with highly experienced installers.
  • Black Ceramic Dots: Some vehicles have black ceramic edges that may create an uneven bond, leading to a whitish or dotted appearance along window edges. This is unavoidable.
  • Edge Gaps: A small gap of up to 1/8 inch may be visible along film edges to prevent peeling when windows are rolled up and down.

Additional Inspections:

  • If there are concerns, an additional inspection may be performed 2-3 weeks after installation. The obtrusiveness of blemishes shall be judged by looking through the film installation in natural daylight from a distance of three feet.

Installation Acceptance Criteria:

  • The installation shall be deemed acceptable if the following are unobtrusive (effects during curing should be disregarded):
  • Dirt Particles
  • Hair and Fibers
  • Adhesive Gels
  • Fingerprints
  • Air Bubbles
  • Water Haze
  • Scores and Scratches
  • Film Distortion
  • Creases
  • Edge Lift
  • Nicks and Tears

Warranty Coverage:

  • Our window film includes a lifetime manufacturer warranty against fading, cracking, and peeling, provided proper care is followed.

Paint Protection Film (PPF) Quality Standards

Curing Time:

  • PPF requires 3-4 weeks to fully cure. Do not wash the vehicle for 5 days after installation.

Inspection Standard:

  • The film should be inspected from 3 feet away in natural daylight at a 90-degree angle to the paint surface.

Common Characteristics:

  • Orange Peel Texture:
  • A slight texture may be present in the film, which is normal and does not affect performance.
  • Small Bubbles & Imperfections:
  • Some small moisture bubbles may be visible initially but will disappear as the film cures.
  • Exposed Edges & Seams:
  • Not all edges can be fully wrapped. Some seams may be visible, especially on white or light-colored vehicles.
  • Pre-Existing Paint Defects:
  • Scratches, swirl marks, and paint chips will still be visible under the film. PPF does not repair existing damage.
  • Custom Fitment:
  • PPF is cut using our in-house cutting system and plotters.
  • All patterns are designed to line up within 1/8 inch of the body panel edge.
  • Custom patterns or bulk installations are available for an additional cost.
  • All hoods will be fully wrapped by design.

Installation Acceptance Criteria:

  • The installation shall be deemed acceptable if the following are unobtrusive (effects during curing should be disregarded):
  • Dirt Particles
  • Hair and Fibers
  • Adhesive Gels
  • Fingerprints
  • Air Bubbles
  • Water Haze
  • Scores and Scratches
  • Film Distortion
  • Creases
  • Edge Lift
  • Nicks and Tears

Warranty Coverage:

  • Our PPF includes a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, and peeling.
